The workshops are aimed at surgical physicians.
At each station (cadaver) work 3 participants.
Number of participants: 18.
Main educational objectives:
- Understanding the surgical anatomy of the anterior abdominal wall
- Learning advanced techniques for abdominal wall reconstruction: “Anterior Component Separation” (Ramirez) and “Posterior Component Separation” (TAR)
- Learning minimally invasive surgical techniques in abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR)
- Safe and effective use of surgical mesh in practice
- Exploring the anatomy of the myopectineal orifice and applying the TAPP technique in practice
Elements that participants are to master and perform independently:
- Endoscopic ACS
- Endoscopic creation of retrorectus space (e-TEP)
- Laparoscopic IPOM
- Inguinal canal repair using the TAPP technique
- Closure of the midline with short-stitch / small bites technique
- Preperitoneal dissection behind the xiphoid and into the pelvis
- Midline laparotomy including bilateral TAR
At the end of the session, one of the cadavers will be used for a full opening of the abdominal cavity, showing the individual layers, creating the retro-muscular space, demonstrating the TAR (Transversus Abdominis Release) and ACS (Anterior Component Separation) procedures, and finally - proper closure using the short bites technique. This will be done by the instructors.
